The luxury resort in the heart of the Athens Rivera was celebrated today by Hard Rock International, GEK TERNA Group, and the Athens community. A special groundbreaking event took place at the historical Hellinikon Airport, featuring a ceremonial shovel celebration. The subsequent ceremony was held at the Hellinikon Experience Center and attended by Hard Rock International executives, GEK TERNA Group executives, Greek government officials, political dignitaries, and local community leaders.
The inaugural integrated resort in mainland Europe, Hard Rock Hotel Athens, will stimulate the economy through entertainment and tourism in the city. Anticipated to launch in 2027, this distinctive destination will merge a sophisticated hotel, an esteemed venue for meetings and conventions, an advanced entertainment facility, globally acclaimed dining options, a lavish Rock Spa® and Pool Complex, and an upscale retail promenade.
The construction project, valued at €1.5 billion, is an advanced facility expected to create 3,000 jobs during its construction phase and another 3,000 long-term positions. This development will not only boost the local economy in Athens but also have an immediate positive effect on Greece’s overall economy.
Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International, expressed gratitude to the political leaders, Gek Terna partners, and the people of Athens for their support and celebrated the momentous occasion of introducing their unparalleled entertainment experience to the city.
The Hard Rock Hotel Athens offers 1,100 guest rooms and a variety of 15 dining choices. Moreover, the project encompasses a 3,000-seat Hard Rock Live theater, capable of accommodating up to 4,000 standing guests, as well as the Rock® Spa and Body Rock Fitness facilities.
